Q: where can i buy a 1987 buick grand national for a really cheap price?
hi im 17 and i really like this car and i only have 1200$ saved but i can get 500 more.i want to buy this car to make it my first project car it doesn’t matter how the body is as long as it comes with the original engine.i live in florida btw.thanks for your time and please help me on this.

A: Even though the Buick turbo Regal Grand Nationals are getting close to 25 years old they remain a very strong collectible. Finding one cheap isn’t going to be easy. Even complete basket cases are going for $5000 or more. If you can’t afford to buy one, how on earth do you think you are going to afford to restore one. You could easily put $10,000 into this car and still not be done.

You may love these cars but as a first car you should look elsewhere for something a little more practical.

Q: Original chip for the Buick Grand National?
Sometime in the 90’s there was a recall on the computer chip for the 1987 Buick Grand National. The original was far superior. My first question is how can I find the part number for the original chip and would the chip be labeled so I could identify it as the original? Secondly, I would like any ideas as to how I can get my hands on an original chip. Please help! By the way Buick can’t help me without a VIN which I don’t have. Once I get the chip or can verify that a car has the original in it, I will buy the car.

A: ask these guys, they would know..

GNXregistry.com .:. THE OFFICIAL BUICK GNX REGISTRY

http://www.gnxregistry.com

Q: Which car would be the best to buy/the best investment as well?
I’m having trouble deciding whether to buy a 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 or 454, or a 1987 Buick Grand National or GNX….let me know what you think or if you have any other suggestions.

A: It’s a pretty subjective question.
My opinion? The Road Runner is the best eye candy.

Q: what would be the insurance for 1987 buick grand national?
im getting my first car and im 17, also what about and 1986,87 regal or regal limited?

A: Not sure, but I do know that insurance on a car that is over 25 years old is a lot cheaper.

Q: Where can I get a 1987 Buick Grand National?
I’m looking for just a regular ole’ 87′ Buick Grand National in black…If you know where I can get one, please let me know!! Thanks!!

A: Umm, all 1987 Grand Nationals came in black. These cars are highly coveted and command higher-than-you-might-expect prices. A low-mileage example in good condition can be had for around $20kish. There’s no such thing as a “regular ole’” Grand National.

Q: How much is a stock 1987 Buick Grand National GNX worth in mint condition?

A: depends on the miles
the # on the dashboard
are you the original owner ?
do you have all the documentation?

its worth at least $50,000

check out ebay motors

Q: 1987 Buick Grand National …………?
How many motor options were there in the 1987 grand national? I thought it was only a 3.8 turbo motor.

A: Your correct just the 3.8S.F.I.Turbo motor.

Q: Anyone know where i can get a carbon fiber hood, trunk, doors, etc. for a 1987 Buick Grand National?
I’ve been looking for carbon fiber parts for some time now and still nothing. Any links or info would help. Thanks

A: try autobodyparts.com

Q: My dream car is a 1987 Buick Grand National. Just out of curiosity, what kind of gas mileage do they get?
I only ask since I know cars with turbo and superchargers get better gas mileage but I don’t know to what extent. This would not be a car I would be driving every day of the year. It would be a summer only car to keep it in the best condition possible (i.e. keep it away from salt on the streets to melt the snow, etc. during the winter months).

A: i dont know where you get your info, but superchargers and turbos increase power, therfore decrease gas mileage, if turbos and superchargers did increase gas mileage then everyone in the world would have like 7 turbos on their car to save gas

Q: what are some good horsepower upgrades for a 1987 Buick Grand National?

A: Typical upgrades include a more powerful turbo and more free flowing intercooler and exhaust. Do a yahoo search on “Grand National upgrades” There is a ton of info for these cars on the web.

Q: how much horsepower does a 1987 buick grand national have?

A: an 87 GNX had 276hp and 360 ft-lbs (stock)

and here’s everything you need to know about the grand national and the regal in general..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buick_Regal

Q: Whats so special about a 1987 Buick Grand national?????????
My uncle passed away and my aunt has offered to give me the car as long as i keep it. She says my uncle worshipped the car. Im lost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A: It is a limited production vehicle. The 1987 was the last year of the Grand National. It is a 3.8L Sequential Fuel Injected V6 with an intercooled Turbo-charger. The 87 was the highest output ( horsepower and torque) of the model run.
Retail value was about $30,000. Now it’s priceless.
Quite a collector vehicle.
I’ll hunt you down and do you in if you sell it or destroy it. I’ll come back with your Uncle to haunt you the rest of your life. LOL, I envy you.

Not your daily driver but you will need to drive it or at least run it to keep the seals in good shape. If the owner’s manual is around you should read it. There might be special instructions for “cool down” of the turbocharger.

Q: 1987 buick grand national gnx v.s. 2009 charger srt8, which is faster 0-60?
I found out that a good Grand National that has under 100 000 km on is around 20 000(in ontario canada) now , any ideas how much the gnx would go for(in a descent condition, not looking for one that has 10 km on it and is going for 107 000 like on ebay)

A: The Buick Grand National GNX in 87 was the fastest car stock from the factory in 87 even today its times are incredable, and would still be faster than a new charger str 8. Should be able to get a good example for approx $9000 to $11000,those miles.

Q: my dad has a 1987 buick grand national, in our back yard……?
im 13, and im wondering if i should take up mechanics, and when i get older and know about cars, should i fix it, it been sitting there for a while … will it be worth it ??

A: Sure, it’s always good to learn new things. A 1987 Grand National is an incredible car, you should try to keep it is good shape. Learn basic on how an engine works and go from there. Ask your dad for help if you can.

Q: Buick Grand National (1987) How much?
How much do you think my Buick Grand National is worth? It has under 40,000 original miles and there are only a handful of minor dings and scratches? Its NOT the GNX type but just the 3.8 supercharged engine. Someone has offered 18,000, but I know with the amount they made that year that it could be worth more. What do you guys think?

Thanks

A: I’d have it appraised by a collector car pro and go from there. These cars are going up in value but like all collector cars, condition and history are the most important things.

Yahoo Answers is the wrong place to find an answer to your question. Find the GN web discussion forum and have your car appraised by someone who knows about the car.

Q: 1985-1987 Buick Grand National?
I was just wondering if this would be a good first car?
I am currently 15 getting a car at the end od the year

A: That’s a good car, but heed my words my friend, that car has punch. It was rated the fastest car on the road for those years. It even smoked corvettes. Assuming its in good running shape, you can wrap yourself around a tree real easy with that beast.

Q: Is there another car similar the Buick Regal Grand National?
I tried out the 1987 Buick Regal Grand National today and I was blown away! I absolutely love it. I love the fast 3.8L Turbocharged, inter-cooled engine. I was wondering if GM made anything else similar to the Grand National? Maybe they made a similar Chevy Monte Carlo or an Oldsmobile Cutlass?

Does anyone know? Thanks for your time.

A: The 1987 Buick Regal was a G platform. This was GM’s midsize RWD car from 1982 to 88. In addition to the Regal, there was also the Chevrolet El Camino, Malibu, Monte Carlo, GMC Caballero, Olds Cutlass, Pontiac Bonneville, Grand Prix, and Grand LeMans. The performance editions were the Monte Carlo SS, Olds 442, and various other alterations of the Regal, among others. I’d say that the Monte Carlo SS would be the most similar to the GN in looks. A Regal T-Type had the 3.8L Turbo as well. The other cars had more powerful V8’s. If you want more, type “GM G platform (RWD)” into Wikipedia.

A: you could try around your wreckers yards they might know where to get one from or try on EBAY price will depend on condition and how complete you need it plus then you have the labor to get it fitted and then it is your choice to go ahead with it or not but it should work out cheaper than buying a new car

Q: Does anyone make a body/ground effect kit for a 1986 Buick grand national?
I’d like to find a body kit similar to the dub city car kit for a real car.

A: I would recommend against adding a ground kit. I have a ‘87 GN and can tell you that it is better to keep the factory look. You will always get respect keeping the body stock. You can trick it out with other options, but messing with the look will just cheapen it.

It will never look “Formula 1 Car” fast. Hello – no aerodynamics!! Strictly from an aesthetic standpoint, adding ground effects to an ‘86 GN is like putting a spoiler on a cinder block.

Q: 1986 Corvette vs. 1986 Buick Grand National?
Me and my buddy got a little argument going here my dad owns a 86′ grand national and his dad owns a 86′ Corvette (both stock very little changes). Now i cant seem to get him to realize the Grand National would destroy it in a race but hey maybe i’m wrong what do you think?
yea truth be told i knew for a fact it would but i thought hearing it from more people would make him shut up…corvette owners dont like to stomach that those turbo v6’s were smacking them around

A: yea, the grand national rapes the hell out of that 86 corvette, Grand national has way more horsepower. I would know, i have one

Q: does any body know where i could buy a 1986-87 buick grand national engine?
how much do they cost and if they are worht it? thanks

A: you could try around your wreckers yards they might know where to get one from or try on EBAY price will depend on condition and how complete you need it plus then you have the labor to get it fitted and then it is your choice to go ahead with it or not but it should work out cheaper than buying a new car

Q: Buick Grand National Question?
I own a 1986 Buick Grand National. On its title, it is listed as a Buick GNA. We know that GN stands for Grand National, but what does the “A” stand for? We have confirmed that it is a true Grand national and its build codes match. Thanks in advance.

A: its the way in which some states title cars ie….i live in indiana have a pt cruiser …title says pt crr might be the same as your grand national g= grand na=national

Q: how many buick grand national 1986 were made?

A: was serching around and found a website www.ronusa.com/buick_grand_national.htm
It said they made 30,022 made total and 20,000 made in the last year.

Q: what would be the insurance for 1987 buick grand national?
im getting my first car and im 17, also what about and 1986,87 regal or regal limited?

A: Not sure, but I do know that insurance on a car that is over 25 years old is a lot cheaper.

Q: 1986 monte carlo ss auto to stick?
hey guys I like old muscle cars that are stick shift. My favorite cars (at the moment is a 1986 monte carlo ss and a 1986 buick grand national. But all the ones I found are sutomatic. EVERY ONE?! Look I seriously cant afford one but I was just wondering how hard is it to switch a automatic (of one of the cars about) to a stick?

A: it’s a lot of custom fabrication work. The grand national and monte in 86 didn’t not come with a stick option so you would need to fabricate a clutch pedal and mount under the dash, clutch, shifter and shift linkage under the car and then find a manual trans that bolts up to the engine. You will also have to have a custom driveshaft made and new trans crossmember. It can be done but it’s going to be expensive!!!

Q: Is there a such thing as a WHITE 1985 Buick Grand National?

A: you could order any color you wanted as long as it was black . Seriously ,anything other than black is a repaint,a clone or none of the above.

Q: How hard would it be to drop a Grand National Motor into a 1985 Buick Lesabre?
I understand that anything is possible these days with automobiles. But I wanted to know what would I have to do (beef up, brace, change over, etc…) if I wanted to put a Grand National Motor into a 1985 Buick Lesabre? Just something different I was thinking about doing. Would the motor bolt right up? What kind of tranmission would I need? Please feel free to elaborate.

A: not hard you can drop anything into a buick lesabre

Q: 1985-1987 Buick Grand National?
I was just wondering if this would be a good first car?
I am currently 15 getting a car at the end od the year

A: That’s a good car, but heed my words my friend, that car has punch. It was rated the fastest car on the road for those years. It even smoked corvettes. Assuming its in good running shape, you can wrap yourself around a tree real easy with that beast.

Q: can doors from a ‘81-’87 buick regal grand national fit a 1985 cutlass supreme?
and will the trunk floors fit in a cutlass

A: Doors no. Trunk floor yes.

Q: Is it true that the Buick Grand National was the fastest car built on the assembly line?
If I remember correctly, there was only a certain number of them built between 1985 and 1987 – is that correct as well?

A: You are right for the years but the 87 model was the quickest out of all the years it was built! But v6 turbo engines were put in regals and t-types from 1979 they are very rare cars but the 87 was the quickest, it was quicker then the 87 corvette not bad for a full frame grocery getter car!!! They also made the GNX which is quicker then all of them and only a few were made! If you have one of them they are worth a large coin!!!

Q: What is the name of the black muscle car in fast and the furious 4?
Is it a 1985 – 87 Buick Regal Grand National fast with a body kit on it?

A: its a 69 dodge charger which he used for the first one and i guess in the new one he fixed it up

Q: what upgrades should i do first to my car?
hi, im 16 and im gettin a buick regal/ grand national soon either 1985,86,87 year.
and i want to know what upgrades should i do first?
i was think upgrading the intercooler, injecters, and turbo to garrett stage II
yeah notice i said regal, it doesnt have to be a grand national, and anyways i found a gn for 12k

A: Nitro and black windows so people cant look inside.

Happy driving!

Q: where to get a rear end?
where can i get a rear end cheep i want a 8.5in 10 bolt rear end for a grand national and i also whant to know where to get a cheep 3.8L v6 2bbl motor for a 1985 buick regal.

A: i would say ebay

Q: how do you change the digital dash display on the 1984 Buick Grand National from metric to english?
The only button on the cluster just resets the odometer(trip) when in start up, the cluster cycles in eng and metric, so i know it can be done.

A: There should be a Metric/MPH button to reset, my Buick does.

Q: 1984 buick regal & grand national?
I have a 1984 Buick Regal with the same 3.8l 231 c.i. engine in Grand National. Does that mean that if I put a turbocharger on my engine that I would get the same performace specs as the Grand National?

A: close to it, in my experience as a mechanic, just swap the turbo system over and you may have to make some body mods but you may have a littl emore power due to the slack regal had to make up

Q: What are the best exhausts for 84′ Grand National?
Its a 1984 Buick Grand National, with side exhausts. I want to increase the power by as much as I can without spending alot and getting crazy.

A: Oh man, you have one great car. Congratulations! IMHO a classic like that should kept as close to stock as possible. That will keep the value up and as you know, that Buick had power right from the factory.
Please take care of it and enjoy it.

Q: What did you think when the Buick Grand National came out?
I’m just curious what some of you muscle car guys thought when the least likely company (Buick) came out with a car faster than a Corvette in 1984. Were you like “oh my god, are you serious?”

A: It was one sweet vehicle to say the least and I still have one customer that has one in storage that has about 3000 miles on it, guess he is just waiting for someone with some serious bucks…..

Q: are 1984-87 buick regals good cars? (basic models v6, not grand nationals)?

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carquotes.sinfree.net

Q: is a 1984-87 buick regal a good first car?
its not a grand national but can be made a quick car, and good gas mileage with the v6

A: you bet your noony it is! car has a full frame great for those “im a new driver” dents and dings. these cars were very very safe. good and heavy too. not aerodynamically stable over 130 mph though. still made of metal too so it has great ramming capabilities. i dont recommend it but it does support trailer hitches. as for the motor, well its a buick V6. nuthing needs to be said. best V6 motors ever invented. BAR NONE! slap a turbine/intercooler on it and you have the fastest living room ever made. those turbocharged grenades still blow the doors off most all cars made today! and get over 20 mpg doing it! buy it man, and go eat some vettes!

Q: is this grand national real or fake?
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=p&car_id=262419344&dealer_id=64152477&car_year=1987&rdm=1249757117424&model=REG&num_records=25&systime=&make2=&highlightFirstMakeModel=&start_year=1984&keywordsfyc=&keywordsrep=&engine=&certified=&body_code=0&fuel=&awsp=false&search_type=both&distance=300&marketZipError=false&search_lang=en&showZipError=y&make=BUICK&keywords_display=&color=&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&min_price=0&drive=&default_sort=priceDESC&seller_type=b&max_mileage=&style_flag=1&sort_type=priceDESC&address=21660&advanced=&end_year=1987&doors=&transmission=&max_price=10000&cardist=91&standard=false&rdpage=thumb

any thing else i should know?

A: yea its real just u shoulndt get a automatic turbocharged car unless its luxury of course… but its real and i think u should probably find one thats either 4 spd manual or 5spd manual with turbo and lower miles…

Q: True enthusiast?
Do you consider someone who speaks of exotic and super-luxury perfomance cars a true automotive enthusiast? Is a man who prefers a Fox Body Mustang, Buick Grand National or even a Caprice Classic Wagon less an enthusiast? I just want to ask all the European Super Car people, that although those cars are nice, and fast, will they ever really mean more to that guy on the corner out in his driveway every night working on his 70 Chevelle?

A: I consider myself a car enthusiast, but I don’t care for any super luxury cars, or any Japanese or American cars for that matter. I’m enthusiastic about French, Italian, German, etc. cars, but normal cars…the Peugeots, Renaults, Simcas, Fiats, etc. from the 60’s and 70’s.

Q: Should i get a truck or a car?
i am 16and have a learners permit and will be getting a provisional next month. currently i have a job at a mechanics shop and am getting a little experience with the tools of the trade, i do not plan on making a living as a mechanic just a temporary job as cars is a hobby. me and my uncle were going to restore a classic car for me but he has passed on and i am still sticking to it. with the economy and even my wallet obviously i cant afford a dodge charger or chevelle ss even if it needs to be restored. i want it to be a daily driver with some muscle, i will be driving to work and school, and the when high schools done im going into the coast guard, so it will go in storage. im not looking to restore to showroom or restore to sell, just get all body work and rust, adecent painjob and an engine redo if needed i want a small block v8 for better gas, i dont need that 440 6 pack, like i said it will be a daily driver. im looking at the plymouth dusters, buick skylarks with the 350 2bbl, and the 63-64 ford galaxys, or the 84-87 regal t types. grand nationals, being a daily driver that can handle a little beating i wouldnt mind going for the satellite instead or the gtx or cutlass instead of the 442. my parents have a third vehicle they offered to me, a nissa frontier 2003, which i can use for the time being, i have also always wanted a 1994-98 ford f250 or 350 powerstroke truck which can be had for under 6 grand, my parents said i could sell the nissan which we found to be worth around 7-8 grand and buy a dodge cummins or ford powerstroke truck. i would not sell the truck for money for a car because we still need a truck. so should i get a classic car, maybe i could get a great deal on a charger or cuda that someone needs some quick cash but thats unlikely, and i keep my eyes peeled on hemmigs, or should i get a truck? im kinda leaning towards a car because there still is a truck if needed and i can always get a powerstroke or cummins for under 10k with decent mileage

A: trucks are a mans best friend…. there is always a time where will eventually need one so its a smart choice but also u can get one later after you save seeing that you prob wont need a truck real soon.

if you are looking for a really nice classic car look for a 1972 dodge charger. its beast

Find new and used Buy Buick Grand National at our automotive classifieds and Used Cars for Sale website Classifieds.CarForums.net

Q: My boyfriend recently bought an ‘86 Buick Grand National…?
He has been working on the car and fixing it up and for the last step he wants to have it painted. the car is black, of course, but for Christmas I wanted to have the car repainted black. About how much should this cost? I don’t want to spend a fortune but I don’t want to get ripped off either. Thanks so much for helping me out!

A: $2000-$3000

Q: I have an 82 Buick Grand National to sell what’s the best way to sell this rare vehicle?
This car is one of 215 made the first year they made the Grand National – it’s a T-Type with less then 60,000 original miles – everything is original except the battery – It’s very rare as there are only about 100 still owned. Unfortunately my husband doesn’t know enough to give it the love it needs. Would like to sell it to a collector or someone that restores them but don’t know how to find someone that would know what they are buying… if anyone has any suggestions they would be welcome… Thanks

A: Hot August Nights is coming up in Reno NV. All sorts of car buffs will be in town, and they hold auctions for selling and buying vehicles!

Q: buick grand national accesories?
I want to buy my bf something like a grand nationa lt-shirt or something like that but I cant find anything online anyone have any ideas to where I could find one?

A: google found

http://www.gncollector.com/
which plans to sell exactly what you are asking for, but isn’t yet. They sent me to

http://stores.ebay.com/CUSTOM-AUTO-APPAREL_GM-LICENSED-BUICK-APPAREL_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ13187706QQftidZ2QQtZkm
which is an eBay store, but has nothing in this category at present

The first site offers a number of other things for the bng, just no apparel.

Or you might get a custom t-shirt, but that’s probably more money.
Oh, yes! google t-shirts, custom – and you’ll find a lot of hits

OFFICIAL GNXregistry – 1987 Buick Grand National eXperiment, Buick GNX … Never buy a Buick GNX without verifying rpo codes (rpo sticker located on the …

http://www.gnxregistry.com

Q: Whats the difference between a 87 buick regal and a grand national?
i am buying a regal tomorrow and it looks just like a grand national so i was wondering?

A: the Grand National has a turbo charger and only 2 doors, there is a GNX that’s even faster..

Q: Buick Grand National GN 3.8L Turbo GOOD !!!!!!!!?
should i buy that and upgrade my GN?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=015&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&viewitem=&item=250149318688&rd=1

A: Yes the GN is one hell of a car. I helped a friend who buit a regal into his own GN, and it was an excellent all around car with a few bolt ons.

Plus they hold there value like a fat man hold on to a donut.

Q: Are these cars going to appreciate in value and become the next muscle car classics?
84-88 Monte Carlo SS
78-81 Camaros and Firebirds
Buick Grand Nationals
I guess any of those late seventies early eighties muscle cars that are still affordable, I’m seriously contemplating on buying one and wanna know if they are good investments…THNX

A: yes im sure they will in time as for the grand national, these cars hold a great value right now and if the car stays in mint condition the value will only go up with time

Q: What’s a good project car?
Hello to all…I am a teenager that is going to buy a project car pretty soon. I need some feedback on one that I should pick.
The choices are:
65-67 Mustang fastback
70-71 plymouth cuda
68-69 charger
70-71 challenger
87 buick grand national

I am a huge mopar fan but the car I get won’t need too much work and I’ll only do little things like body work and change the engine and transmission. I would like to keep the car original looking but also maybe give it some what of a modern look…

Thanks for the relpys

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.yoll.net

Q: Will Buick ever shake its “old man car” rep, they now look like they want to be a US equivalent to Lexus?
Anyone see that Buick crossover ad, with the cliche art house director prancing around acting like a pretentious d-bag while they tried to film a commercial and make the car look cool? It sure didn’t win me over any bit towards wanting a Buick. Its a shame Buick won’t go back to its two part luxe/performance reputation like it had as recent as the 80’s what with the Regal and Grand National/GNX models. My grandma had a mid 80s Regal and it was both plush and sporty. If they stuck to this they wouldn’t have any trouble selling cars. Now they seem to be dead set on being a ersatz domestic Lexus equivalent, and their recent offerings are just slightly more chromed up variants of the generic GM front wheel drive econo-sleds General Motors seems to be convinced are still the ‘ihhhhsh with the car buying public. Do they not have focus groups of motorists? Is nobody there watching market trends?
No I am down for the old school pimp-ride tricked out Buick, I am talking about modern Buicks, like the Lucerne and that weirdo crossover thing. My grandma had a sick Regal coupe back in the 80s it had a white leather roof and she had it in this mint green paint on white leather seats that felt more comfortable than furniture. Buicks like that are more fresh than new Buicks in my opinion.

A: while buick will probably never regain its reputation, it really doesnt need to. Cadillac has that chunk of the market covered quite well.

the main reason buick still exists is due to their incredible popularity in china. theyre considered the coolest thing around in the chinese market for some unknown reason. theyre EVERYWHERE over there.

Q: How much would a used 87′ Buick Grand National cost?

A: hey man yea im lookin for one right now and ive looked everywhere such as ebay, autotrader, craigslist, and ive found that the price is anywhere from $10,000 to like $60K but most that i have found r about $20K

Q: where can I find a buick grand national for sale?
I am looking for a nice summer car, and I only like muscle cars. Money is a little tight right now so I am saving up, and putting cash down for a used car come spring/summer. I was looking at a buick grand national ‘87. does anyone have any feed back about the car? or know where I can find one?

A: Craigslist, Ebay motors, autotrader.com

Q: Buick Grand National Production Numbers?????
Can anyone tell me how many Buick Grand Nationals came with T-TOPS? I can find production numbers for how many G/N’s were built, but nothing more specific. Any sites I should check?? I own an 86 with t-tops and i was told its a rarity. Especially since it reduces structual integrity when used for racing purposes. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

A: Get in touch with Kirban Performance. They have the numbers on all the information. GNs are there thing.

Q: Buick Grand National vacuum brake conversion questions.?
I recently changed my ‘87 Buick ” T ” over to vacuum brakes, I used a set-up off an ‘86 Caprice 10 3/4″ booster w/master cyl. All the parts bolted up ok but I had to drill and tap the intake plenum in order to get 16.5-17″ vacuum. The pedal is pushed all the way back to it’s limit installed. Pedal seems Stiff to push, and is Hard then goes down off panic stops. Will not even lock up front brakes on hard stops. This set-up does not work much better than the Powermaster. Whats going on here???? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kcuster57@aol.com

A: It sounds like the vaccumn canister is not holding vaccumn.( weak or cracked diaphraim) Also did the swap come with a regulator valve (porposting) to set rear and front psi? Make double sure the system is bled well.. In addition the master cylcinder has a shuttle rod that must be centered up in order to porposition the fluid front and rear.Have a fun day and good luck.

Q: I just got a 84 Buick Grand National. Whats the differece between it and the 87. I know the 87 is intercooled.?
I was wanting to race it. I am getting a bigger turbo and building the short block. Wanted to know if heads were the same, the block same strength. I read some people used all stock parts besides turbo, piston, and fuel system, and ran 9s in the quarter. thanks

A: The 87 has an intercooled turbo.

Q: What car did Shaft drive in the remake?
What was the grey car Samuel L. Jackson drove in “Shaft”? It was like a Pontiac Grand-Prix, or a Buick Grand National, but I think it had SS badges on the side..? Was it a Chevvy, or a Buick?

I’m in England, used to have a Pontiac Grand Prix, want one of those big Fisher-bodied coupes again!

A: Monte- Carlo SS.

Q: transmition?
I only want to know what type of transmition use a buick grand national…

A: They came with automatic transmissions, but you could get a 5 speed standard if you wanted it bad enough

Q: Chemistry Problem?
The Buick Grand National, which was introduced in the mid 1980’s, was a real hit with performance car enthusiasts who were suffering withdrawal symptoms from their 60’s muscle cars due to the gas crunch and parenthood! Luckily the Grand National took care of both problems. Large enough for a family of 5 (car seats and all), and with a turbo-charged 3.8L V6, this black beauty (black was the only color option) catapulted down the drag strip turning quarter mile times around 13.80 seconds. With all of this going for it, the GN was a moderate gas consumer as well, getting about 25 mpg.

Assuming that the gasoline used is 100% octane (C8H18) and that the combustion of octane inside of the engine is complete, how many kilograms of oxygen will be consumed if a person were to drive their Grand National on a 1112 mile trip?
The density of octane is 0.703 g/mL

A: 2 C8H18 + 25 O2 —–> 16 CO2 + 18 H2O

mw C8H18 = 114.3 g/mole

1112 mi x ( 1 gal / 25 mi) x (1000 L / 264.17 gal) x (1000 ml / L) x (0.703 g / ml) x (1 mole C8H18 / 114.3 g C8H18) x (25 moles O2 / 2 moles C8H18) x (32.0 g O2 / mole O2) = 4.14 x 10^5 g O2

= 414 kg O2

******
do you need help understanding what I did here?

Q: Choosing a project show/race car?
Hello there. I am a truck boy, with my whole family driving trucks. I have always liked cars anyhow.

Me and my dad are looking for a little project to do. I am looking for a used car that can look nice (body kits, lambo doors ect).

This will be summer driven and a show case car, and may be taken on the track near my house for Sunday racing. So what I need like I said above is a car that is fast and looks wicked. Cars I thought of are..

Ford Mustang [('99 and newer) I hate the 5.0!!!]
Pontiac Trans Am
Buick Grand National
Chevy Camaro
Pontiac G6/Grand Prix
Mitsubishi 3000/eagle talon
Mitsubishi Lancer/Evo
Mitsubishi Eclipse
** Your car thoughts are accepted aswell, I am open to mostly all cars that can go fast.

I am not looking to do drag with it, more of circuit racing.

I have approx 10 Grand at the moment, And I am no life’ing my work in the summer so I am expecting another 5 000.

Insurance, gas, mods are not an issue at the moment. I have a ‘first car’ already so I am looking for a good summer show car.

A: If you prefer American I would suggest the Mustang, Camaro or Trans Am, all of which are fast, have a lot of aftermarket parts and a lot of potential to go much faster.
But personally I am more into imports, and know a lot more about them. Out of your choices that are imports, I would suggest the Lancer Evolution. It is pretty damn fast to begin with, and has a great platform to add more power to. If you choose and Eclipse I would go with the late 90’s GST or GSX version, which have the turbo 4 cylinder motor. These cars have a ton of potential for both engine mod’s and exterior modifications. The downside to the GST is that it is FWD, so you are somewhat limited to the power output and handling. The GSX has the same turbo motor but offers AWD.

Here are a couple cars that are not on your list that I would suggest that are all good starting points for a both flashy and fast sports car project.

My number 1 choice due to the variety of options, and overall potential as drag/drift/race or showcar goes is the 240SX

Nissan 240SX (this RWD car has a ton of potential, the parts available for it are endless! There are a ton of engines that can fit into this car including the popular SR20DET motor which is an easy swap and pretty affordable when it comes to engine swaps. This motor is pretty fast to begin with, and can be modified to 800+ HP!! The turbo and twinturbo motors from the Nissan Skyline can also fit into this car! The rear wheel drive platform combined with the weight and handling make this one of the ultimate drift cars. There are also many body mod’s available to make it look like anything from a sleek sleeper to a straight up Fast and Furious ride)

Acura Integra GSR (This car along with the Eclipse GST, is probably the best FWD tuning car out there. It loves to rev high, can be internally beefed up, or turbocharged, handles very well for FWD, and has tons of body mods available)

Toyota Supra
Mazda RX7- Both this and the Supra are great RWD sports cars that can easily be modified to the 500-1000HP range!

Honda S2000- Great little RWD sports car, what it may low end power, it makes up in high rev fun! It handles like a dream!

Mazda mazdaspeed Miata- Similar description as the S2000, not the highest horsepower car, but has such great handling that it can keep up with cars with triple the horsepower on a twisty course. The mazdaspeed version comes with a turbocharger, sport suspension and lip kit to make it peppier, handle better, and more eye appealing.

Q: what should i do in this situation?
hi, im in a pickle, im getting my license soon , about a week. i need some input on a vehicle. my parents said i can use the 03 nissan frontier that we have for my needs. school and work. but i have always wanted to restore an old car, take that back i mean restore it to driving condition, like take care of the engine and rust and drive it around like joe dirt and his superbird. but that is going to take a lot of money and im gonna be a senior next year and i only have a grand saved up and to get a good running and driving var like a plymouth satellite or ford galaxie you need at least 5 grand. but ive always wanted a 92-98 ford f250 or 350 powerstroke truck, they are cheap and fun! i could also do minor restroration to as there may me some interior or rust or something that could be done to make it nice to get my feet wet in the restoration field as i work at a mechanics shop and may after hours have some access to tools. but when i graduate im going into the coast guard or air force and i feel as i may not have time for a mild restoration that may end up being have done. not to mention i will be in a rotc program and be in college before my service, and if i like it in the military then i will extend my stay, and any money i earn there could be put towards a car worth restoring or one already restored, i mean a charger rt car that needs restoration can easily go for 15k. i have also considered investing all or most money i earn so when i get out i will hopefully have a asset. but i will still have a reliable 7.3 powerstroke to drive into the ground if needed, plus i like to go off roading and a muscle car is not for that. i also live in the country so parking is not an issue. i have also considered late model muscle like buick regals and grand nationals but they are as expensive as a good parts car to restore, and camaros.mustangs, everyones got em. so no im considering a malibu instead of the chevelle or cutlass instead of a 442 cuz there cheaper but i still can enjoy them the same

A: First of all I want to commend you for going into the military and supporting this country! I strongly recommend you take your parents gratuity and wait until you are out of the military and have time to devote to a car. The worst thing you can do to a car/truck and especially diesel is let it sit and whatever you buy will be doing just that for possibly months at a time, and you really wont need it on base because personal vehicles arent allowed very often until you are a higher rank.
You seem to be a pretty sharp kid, invest a big portion of your paychecks and save the rest to buy a nice fixer-upper when you retire.

A: trucks are a mans best friend…. there is always a time where will eventually need one so its a smart choice but also u can get one later after you save seeing that you prob wont need a truck real soon.

if you are looking for a really nice classic car look for a 1972 dodge charger. its beast

A: Craigslist, Ebay motors, autotrader.com

Q: Why is the Buick Grand National so expensive?
I have found and immaculate 1987 model Grand National for sale in my town. The Kelley Blue Book states the private resale value of the car as $24,000, which is also the asking price of the owner. What makes these cars so special to be valued at such a high price?

A: Because they are a collectors item ! Limited production, having one in “immaculate condition” is like having money in the bank they are race or show cars right off the street and have a large following can run with Corvettes and still get decent mileage .

Q: Anyone know of any ‘81 Buick Grand Nationals for sale, preferrably under $4,000?

A: B GN 81 under 4K ….. The Hunt is on….It will be a wreck for sure

I recommend to people Looking for a Grand National thats worth the money but only have a 5K budget or less to look for a T-Type and modify it to the way theyt want it…
